Southern Shores meets Animal farm

Ok, it is not as funny as an Uncle Jack post but this letter in the OB Sentinel may be the best written piece on local politics I've seen in a long time. The note titled T"Stand up to tyranny" draws parallels between the George Orwell novel "Animal Farm" and the current situation in Southern Shores. No jokes today about going to the beach. This is a town on the brink of crisis. Long term employees are being forced out to be replaced by a crew loyal to the Mayor. The future is bleak. Taxpayers in Southern Shores should heed the warning in the letter to pay attention and to get involved. The town government is on the brink of collapse, a collapse that could result in very ugly lawsuits. Even without collapse and lawsuits the town is being turned from serving the citizens to serving the whims of the Mayor and that is a recipe for trouble.

You are that loud mouth, blow-hard fast talking ex mayor from Nags Head who was run out of office for trying to over tax his people. Please, please, please, stay out of SS's business.

I tend to agree the author's piece and it was very well written. My belief is SS may just be lagging behind the unfortunate move to fascism in the US.


Now for the definition on fascism.
From the American Heritage Dictionary
A system of government marked by centralization of authority under a dictator, stringent socioeconomic controls, suppression of the opposition through terror and censorship, and typically a policy of belligerent nationalism and racism.


When average citizens become so lazy or complacent or worried about this apocalyptic threat of terrorism that they allow government to lie in bed with corporations to strip away their civil liberties...Would be my personal definition of fascism.


If someone could tell me why anywhere in the Outer Banks needs cameras mounted on stoplights?

Why they allow this runaway police state to impede all their rights is beyond me?

Come on wake up people....KDH suspends 2 police officers and they do not have to report the resons...Why?

What happened to the transparency of government?

My final thought I will leave you with is...2 idea...One day we will realize why the following words were written. Hopefully by then it's not too late because we all know how well fascism worked for Germany.

"Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just Powers from the consent of the governed."

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness

Ronnie i tend to think that's the problem. I do believe that it has been consistently more and more opaque. I think a change needs to be made in the way taxpayers are treated by the government. Many things seems behind locked doors even at the town and county level without us talking state or federal.
