We had a great time at the first concert in a series at Roanoke Island Festival Park. Former Hootie and the Blowfish front man Darius Rucker was the main attraction. Rucker is a rise star in the country music firmament. He has put several songs on the country charts in the last year.
His 90 minute set included his recent his, some Hootie hits and a bunch of country covers - recent and classic. My fave was his version of the Steve Goodman/David Allen Coe classic "You Never Even Call Me By My Name" A diverse show closed with the Prince classic Purple Rain as a 2nd encore.
The crowd was enthusiastic though well below the hopes of the promoter I am sure.
The sound was outstanding and the al fresco venue was perfect for Rucker's energetic show. Lets hope these shows are able to continue.
Up next veteran blue rocker Delbert McCilinton on Fri. I have been a Delbert fan for many years and this will be a real treat.
BTW We had dinner before the show at Ortega's formerly Green Dolphin and even earlier Fernandos. Great Tex-Mex meal cheep. Try the Road-1 cabernet, first class.
Here are some shots from the show. click through for a full screen slide show.
Ciao
